MICROMACHINING AND PATTERNING Laserod specializes in laser machining of silicon (Si). We offer precision laser cutting, scribing,  coring (resizing) , flat or notch cutting,  microdrilling holes , singulation and dicing of silicon and MEMS devices. Typically applications of laser machining silicon include the manufacture of  MEMS  devices, sensors, detectors, and solar cells. Silicon is brittle, has a crystalline structure, and has a high vaporization temperature, none of which present a problem to laser machining. For example crystalline direction is of no hindrance to the laser. Also lasers can cut in circles and produce flats or notches all in one operation. Lasers cut circles of almost any size so coring (resizing), and via hole drilling are easily done using pure laser energy with no mechanical contact. Direct Laser Patterning of Coatings – As a Job Shop Service or as a Laser Product

Laserod is proud to be in the forefront of laser patterning, also referred to as etching, for displays such as a touch screens. Other terms for this process are laser structuring and laser scribing. This patterning process removes the invisible and conductive material coating on the display to leave behind a functional circuit, or pattern, on the display.  The remaining conductive pattern guides the electrical signals go where they are intended. The etched/scribed circuit patterns are applied to a thin coating of Transparent Conductive Oxide (TCO) on a substrate of glass or plastic film. Examples of TCO are Indium Tin Oxide (ITO), carbon nanotubes, and thin gold coatings. TCO coated glass and plastic are typically used in flat panels, windshields, architectural windows, photovoltaics, and touch screen displays. They are cut by us down to 10 micron laser cut width. For large area removal we simply overlap the ablated 10um spots at high laser repetition rates...

It was a distinct honor to have been invited to contribute the section on Laser Patterning.
